Dogs life...

Just after I posted that last one, heard one of the stray dogs in our locality whimper. He was hit by a car earlier today but it didn't look all that serious. We thought the car just nicked him a bit or something. So took some biscuits and roti for him but the minute you approach, he limps away to a distance. Finally just left it all there. And now here's hoping he'll eat and that it's not all that serious.

Wish they led a safer life. But we're in a city where many people live likewise sans any security, so it's too much to ask for I guess.

Nothing new. Upsetting all the same.

Sounds as if you have a serious stray problem, do you not have an animal shelter in your city?

Just curious.

It is quiet a serious problem here Jill. And not the most animal friendly place I should think! In our neighbourhood our family has a row with someone or the other throughout. They keep objecting to us feeding stray dogs saying if we feed them they'll stick around. Our take is that they will stick around in any case and so if they're hungry they might turn violent. How on earth can one see little pups go hungry at their doorstep?

There aren't too many shelters. I've spoken a couple of times to some shelters and they're quite full up mostly and top of their priority are the injured ones. Perhaps getting the dogs here neutered is one way to alleviate the problem. Every time some pups are born around our place we are both happy and sad. Happy to just see them. And really very sad to imagine what's to become of them.

My dad adopted one and took him along to where he is posted. They've (my dad and his dog that is) have since moved two cities and are now in Calcutta.
